Buckland's handyman hangs up his tools
It is increasingly rare to hear of long service in the work place but maintenance man Colin Hancock at Buckland Tout-Saints Hotel in Kingsbridge is proof that staff loyalty is still alive and well.
Colin, 69, has worked at the luxury country manor hotel for over fifteen years and has become a much loved part of the furniture. His local knowledge, friendly smile and hard working attitude have been a big part of life at Buckland. Having made the decision to retire Colin is looking forward to spending quality time with his family and friends.
Still in touch with his original employers at the hotel, Colin remembers one year when staff were all left to stay up and enjoy a Christmas party and the bosses simply went to bed. He commented that working at Buckland has been like being part of ‘one big family’.
Gemma Balaam, General Manager at Buckland, said,
‘Colin has been a popular and much loved part of the team – we don’t know what we will do without him. Everyone is extremely sad to see him retire and he will be greatly missed’.
She added,
‘I have no doubt that he will be popping in to see us all on a regular basis, making sure that everything is still up to his standards!’.
