Mallory Retains Michelin Star for 8th Year
Only about 120 restaurants in Britain hold the industry's most sought-after accolade.
Other Michelin starred chefs include Gordon Ramsay, Heston Blumenthal and Michael Caines, although the "Gordon Ramsay at Claridges" restaurant in Mayfair, London lost its star this year.
Mallory Court's Michelin star is held by its head chef Simon Haigh, making him the best chef in the Coventry and Warwickshire region. He was included in a list published by the Michelin Guide on Friday, prompting celebrations at the hotel in Harbury Lane.
Simon said he was particularly pleased as he received the call on his tenth wedding anniversary. He and wife Jo dined at his own restaurant to celebrate.
He added: "Understandably this is a tense time of year in kitchens as the Michelin Guide is the benchmark within the industry. Once you've gained a star it's much easier to lose it than hold on to it. It's testament to the skill and hard work of the whole team."
Mallory is part of the Eden Hotel Collection group of prestige hotels owned by Sir Peter Rigby, who has appeared in The Times 100 rich list, and who made his fortune in IT solutions. The rich and famous fly in to dine at Mallory, which has its own helipad. It's also popular for special occasions, including weddings, the hotel grounds also play host to the Brasserie – a more relaxed and informal dining experience, the Brasserie holds its very own rosette.
Simon will also oversee the kitchens at the group's new hotel, The Arden Hotel in Stratford, located opposite the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The joint venture with the Royal Shakespeare Company will open this summer after a multi-million pound redevelopment to transform a centuries old, down-at-heel former building. The Michelin inspectors visit anonymously, and entries cannot be paid for.
